European Parliament calls for Right to Fair Remuneration for Authors
SAA welcomes the Resolution on a coherent EU policy for cultural and creative industries (CCIs) which calls for the “establishment of the right to fair remuneration and legal protection for authors”. SAA now calls on the Parliament to make this a reality by adding such a right for audiovisual authors in its work on the European Commission’s copyright Directive proposal.

Screenwriters and directors call on European Parliament to put authors at heart of copyright reform
A delegation of audiovisual authors and their collective management organisations (CMOs) from across Europe met Members of the European Parliament in Strasbourg to discuss copyright package ahead of the announcement of the winner of the European Parliament’s LUX Film Prize.

SAA welcomes European Parliament moves to promote European film and TV
European Parliament’s Culture committee hearing today on the amending of the Audiovisual Media Services Directive follows the publication of a draft report that looks to narrow the regulatory differences between online and offline services and better promote European works.

La grace pour Keywan Karimi
Keywan Karimi, cinéaste iranien de 30 ans, a été condamné par les autorités iraniennes à six ans de prison et 223 coups de fouet. Son crime : avoir exercé son métier de cinéaste, avoir montré le visage non officiel de la société iranienne.

La SAA a élu son nouveau conseil d'administration
L'Assemblée générale de la SAA, qui s'est tenue à Bruxelles le 13 avril dernier, a élu un nouveau conseil d'administration. Barbara Hayes, de l'ALCS (Royaume-Uni), a été reconduite dans ses fonctions de présidente, et Patrick Raude, de la SACD (France), en sera le nouveau vice-président.

European Copyright: Commission commits to action on authors’ remuneration
SAA, FERA and FSE welcome the European Commission’s commitment to go beyond political declarations and take action on authors’ remuneration. Urgent action is needed to ensure creativity and authors’ rights are rewarded in financial terms and worth something online.
